Beauty Product Review: MAC eye shadow in "Shale"

Jan10

Lately, I've been on a mission to find a perfect shadow that goes with just about any outfit. I'm still trying to perfect my smokey eye look and I needed a shadow that would stay on all day. I also wanted a color that I could wear day or night, without looking too overdone during the daytime. For a while I experimented with Maybelline's eye shadow quads, trying to find the perfect color that would match my skin tone and that would essentially be my "go-to" shadow.

Although Maybelline's shadow quads were a great deal (less than $10 I think), the pigment broke up easily and I would end up with specks of shadow all over my face. This was especially annoying when I used darker shadows, because then I would have pieces of shadow stuck in my under-eye concealer... no good. Alas, at a trip to Macy's, I picked up MAC's eye shadow in "Shale." Here's a pic of the shadow...

Sorry for such a tiny image, but it's all I could get off MAC's site. Anyways, I tried the shadow out for the first time last night, and I absolutely LOVE it! It's definitely my new go-to shade. I was a little hesitant to spend $14 on a shadow at first (after all, their mascara only retails at $12!), but it's definitely a worthwhile investment for something I'll use nearly every day. The shadow didn't crease, either, which was a huge plus! Also perfect for layering to create a smokey eye. In person, the color is a little bit more purple than shown - it's not straight silver like the picture above leads you to believe.

Just a warning though - I have olive-toned skin, so if you have a lighter skin tone this color shadow may be a little harsh against your skin. I've found that the employees who work at the MAC counters at my Macy's are pretty knowledgeable when it comes to specific products for your skin color and type, so if you're wondering what colors and products will work best for you, don't hesitate to ask someone! A second opinion never hurt anyone.
