I'll be honest - I didn't listen to Scarlett's first CD that she released. No offense to Scarlett, she's awesome, but I just wasn't interested. Browsing JustJared now I saw that the actress is releasing a CD of duets with Pete Yorn and I figured I'd give the first single a listen. Surprisingly, I really like the song. Here's more info from JustJared:
"The album Break Up was recorded in producer Sunny Levine’s garage studio and is set for a September 8 release. 'I always thought of it as just a small project between friends,' explains Scarlett. 'I’ve loved the album ever since I heard it completed. It perfectly captured where I was in my life at the time.'"
You can listen to the first single, "Relator," on the The Break Up Album's Web site. The track was released today on iTunes, so you can head over there and purchase if you like it. Enjoy!

I've come down with a fabulous case of pinkeye, which means my Sunday is limited to me lying in bed (check) while the rest of the student population is out enjoying the nice weather. Anyways, I guess being under house arrest isn't too terrible, and since my housemates are out all day I've tried to find ways to occupy myself, which means plenty of time to find new music. I hit up LastFM to see what LMFAO songs were on there and a trio called Hyper Crush popped up as a similar artist.
To make a long story short, I spent the past two hours listening to them. Very similar to LMFAO, so if you like those guys you'll dig Hyper Crush. They even did a song together so check it out on iTunes. Plus I'm obsessing over Holly's (1/3 of Hyper Crush) style - so funky, so many colors. I like!

It's nearly midnight and I'll admit that I should be studying, but I find the perfect time to catch up on my bookmarked blogs is when I should be doing something else (i.e. studying). I checked out Kanye's blog a lil while ago and he usually posts new tracks, one that caught my eye was Keri Hilson's new song featuring Ne-Yo and Kanye himself. I haven't been such a fan of Keri's singles, although I do love her voice on "Hero" with Nas... especially since I saw them perform it live!
"Knocks You Down" is all about being kicked around by love, and I think that's something everyone can relate to! The beat is pretty good, too.
Gotta love Keri's style, too, she's got some killer curves... rockin' those liquid leggings! When I saw her perform she was outfitted in a Herve Leger dress that was to die for!

Kid Sister is definitely my fave female rapper right now... if you haven't heard of her, hit up the iTunes store NOW and buy her single "Pro Nails" f/Kanye West... you won't regret it! (And don't worry, she's not a Little Kim protege or anything like that.)
Check out RCRD LBL's site here, where you can listen to other songs by Kid Sister like (my fave right now) "Get Fresh" and "Family Reunion" f/David Banner. Trust me, your ears will be happy.

A little bit more about Kid Sister from the RCRD LBL site:
"Kid Sister is Chicago. She makes rap music and works at a children's clothing store slanging bibs and teething rings. Yes, her hype man J2K of Flosstradamus is her real brother, and yes that does rule. Together they took the Chicago music scene by storm rocking parties and causing all around dancefloor mayhem, and have spent the last year rocking shows from the sweatiest, chic-est basement parties in Paris to the main stage of Coachella."

This song isn't exactly new, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to it. Comprised of two Harvard grads, Chester French is about to burst onto the mainstream music scene. "She Loves Everybody" song made an appearance on the ending credits of Entourage (can't remember which season) and right now "She Loves Everybody - the Neptunes Remix" is featured on Nike's Sportswear page. Do yourself a favor and listen to the "She Loves Everybody" EP, it's available on iTunes.
Also, be sure to check out Chester French's MySpace page and listen to my personal favorite, "People." Cheers!

You know this song, even if you don't think you do. "Lights Out" made an appearance in a Bud Light Lime commercial this past year... So do your ears a favor and listen to the entire track. Elle's December issue has dubbed Santogold "The Uncommercial Commercial Breakout." Listen to "L.E.S. Artistes" and "Creator" to sample the variety of sounds that is Santogold.

I heard "RoboCop" before Kanye's album dropped, but the version I heard then was different to the one that actually made it onto the album. Needless to say, I love this song! I don't know how I feel about Kanye's new sound - I didn't really like "Love Lockdown" - but I really like this track. It's also a different sound from "Heartless." Buy it off iTunes, now!

I went for a run this morning (in a warm 35 degrees, smart move on my part) and one of the songs I listened to was "Guilty as Charged" by Gym Class Heroes and Estelle. The track is off Gym Class Heroes' latest album, The Quilt. If you loved "Cookie Jar" (f/The Dream), you will most definitely enjoy this song! Plus I love Estelle's sultry voice and unique sound ("American Boy" anyone?). And while you're checking out The Quilt, listen to "Blinded by the Sun," too. You won't be disappointed.
