It's no secret that the green trend has invaded the fashion world. This past summer, Rogan released a capsule line with Target made with organic cotton. H&M also came out with organic cotton clothing. An article from the Wall Street Journal investigated just how shopping local designer's spots is not only environmentally friendly, but it also means buying one-of-a-kind pieces that only YOU have. From the Wall St. Journal:
"That's true luxury -- without the layers of markups, showroom overhead and shipping that are built into the prices at upscale retail stores. "You don't pay for marketing for my shoes; you pay for craft," says George Esquivel, who sells custom-made shoes in Los Angeles to clients including the basketball player Yao Ming. Mr. Esquivel's shoes have an artisanal quality -- no two pairs are precisely alike, and he can make them to fit any foot."
For those of you lucky enough to live in a city with lots of local boutiques, I'm jealous! I love shopping at little boutiques so much more than the regular mall! And if you're buying gifts this season and know the recipient's size, this is a great way to gift them with a unique present!
