OK so remember back in the beginning of January when I said that I wanted to shop for vintage clothing more - as my New Year's resolution? Well, like most resolutions, this one fell to the wayside... in favor of shopping at H&M. (I'm sorry, it's a hard habit to break!) I think we can all agree that shopping for vintage takes much more time, effort, and patience than walking into your nearest Macy's and combing through a sale rack.
Therefore, discovering Nasty Gal Vintage has made keeping my resolution all that much easier. I was browsing MySpace Fashion (don't ask) yesterday out of boredom when I stumbled upon this lil treasure chest of vintage finds. There's all sorts of pieces, including eyewear and accessories, and even a sale section! They have a killer selection of vintage eyeglasses, including brands like Nina Ricci and Emilio Pucci (drooling yet?).
You know you heart Nicole Richie's boho style, well now you can emulate it with Nasty Gal
We all know that buying vintage is better for the environment, and most of the time it can be better for our wallets, too. Plus, don't you want clothes that your friends can't go out and buy the minute they see how fabulous you look in them? I think I've done enough convincing, so get to Nasty Gal ASAP to begin amassing your vintage collection. (PS, there's also a blog with updates about new pieces that come in, so you're always in the loop with what kinda merchandise they're stocking.)

The latest mass retailer to hop on the 'green' bandwagon will be lingerie dealer Victoria's Secret, which will introduce environmentally conscious beauty and bath products. From TrashBag Aesthetics:
"The new line will be available starting next month, which is created by using organic and vegan ingredients, all natural formulas packed in eco-friendly materials. The new Victoria Secret green collection will be broken down into three separate solution-based collections: Energizing for oily skin, Nourishing for dry skin and Soothing for sensitive skin, each with an 11.8-oz. body wash for $10 and an 11.8-oz. body lotion for $12. The Energizing group adds Sugar Scrub, $12 for 8.4 oz.; Nourishing also includes a shave cream, $10 for 6.7 oz., and Soothing adds a hand cream, $8 for 2.5 oz."

Hmm, I'm not sure how successful this line will be. I admire VS for wanting to do something environmentally friendly, but at the same time I don't think the typical VS shopper will be visiting the store to purchase 'green' body soap. I'm also wondering how VS plans to break through all the clutter of the green beauty/bath products already on the market - I'm guessing they'll use Adriana or Alessandra to market the products.
If you're still wondering about what Vicky's has in store concerning these products, be sure to read TrashBag Aesthetics' article for more info.

Good morning! I thought I'd start off this morning by letting you know about Banana Republic's new line called "Heritage," made of eco-friendly materials. From FabSugar:
"The Heritage collection, ranging from $39 to $150, is made out of organic cotton, soy silk, and bamboo. The gorgeous, eco-friendly line debuts this Summer. On another note, the company has also started using more recycled materials and changing treatment processes so its laundry facilities can comply with the Business for Social Responsibility's clean water guidelines."
When I first read this post, I thought the pieces would be pretty expensive - but luckily, they're affordable. Affordable + environmentally friendly = one killer combo :)

How ironic - recently, I've been pondering the types of chemicals my hairspray has in it. Not to mention, I'm sure my enormous aluminum can of John Freida is probably gonna sit in a landfill until my grandchildren have children, or even longer. So it must be fate that I just read an article on EcoStiletto about Aveda's new line of Intelligent Nutrients hair products, which are made with all natural ingredients - you can even drink the hairspray. Seriously! From EcoStiletto:
"Created with a simple mantra in mind—'Everything we put in and on our bodies must be nutritious and safe.'—the line of nutritional supplements, skin, body, baby and pet care is created with food-grade, organic ingredients and free of toxic petrochemicals like phthalates, sulfates, parabens, dioxanes, silicone, lead or heavy metals. Plus, the company grows the certified organic ingredients for its products, uses post-consumer recycled plastic, paper and glass in their packaging, and powers their production through renewable energy. Can’t get much more authentically eco-friendly than that.
We tested the Certified Organic Perfect Hold Hair Spray and found that it held a style better, with less crunch and more softness, than a chemical-heavy brand. And chilled, it tastes vaguely like a gimlet. Shaken, not stirred."

So, would any of you really drink it? I probably wouldn't, but I'm looking towards Intelligent Nutrients as my next hairspray purchase.

Talk about killing two birds with one stone - not only are these T-shirts made from recycled material, proceeds from these shirts go to one of several causes. From NYLON:
"Fortunately, there's Project 7, a new organization committed to combating seven of Earth's biggest problems - hunger, sickness, war, political prisoners, environmental decay, homelessness, and education.
It's a lot to tackle, but they're trying one step at a time: Last season, they released seven water bottles with proceeds going to the causes, and now it's time for t-shirts:
Environmental tees made from recycled plastic bottles (five of them make a shirt) that retail for $22.99."

I'm wondering if those water bottles are reusable - I would assume they are, since there's so many problems associated with plastic water bottles - but from the picture above they look like plastic (right?). I'd definitely buy one to support one of those causes - they look like a great alternative to a Nalgene, if you're in the market to purchase a reusable water bottle!
